In Germany, reports highlight varying trends in animal welfare and wildlife presence. In North Rhine-Westphalia, experts note a recent decrease in wolf sightings and livestock predation. However, officials from the State Agency for Nature, Environment and Climate (Lanuk) and local hunting associations confirm that wolf packs remain present in the region, suggesting the seasonal quietness is due to breeding cycles and nursing periods rather than disappearance.

Meanwhile, Thuringia is seeing a rise in animal hoarding cases. According to data from the Ministry of Health, there were 14 documented cases in 2024 involving over 240 animals, ranging from guinea pigs to horses. The German Animal Welfare Federation (Deutscher Tierschutzbund) reports an even broader issue, noting 150 cases involving over 13,000 animals nationwide, highlighting the growing challenge of neglected and overcrowded animal collections.
