Germany arrests two suspected members of Eritrean terrorist group

The German Federal Prosecutor's Office has arrested two suspected members of the terrorist organization 'Brigade N'Hamedu Deutschland'. The suspects, identified as Eritrean national Merhawi A. and German national Shimangus T., were apprehended in the vicinity of Stuttgart and Saarbrücken.

The group, founded in August 2022, reportedly aims to overthrow the Eritrean government. Authorities allege the organization used violence against supporters of the Eritrean regime and German state institutions, including police officers, during various events in Germany.

Merhawi A. is accused of serving as General Secretary and of involvement in riots in Gießen, while Shimangus T. allegedly served as the group's first chairman. The arrests follow a large-scale investigation that included searches of 19 locations across several German states and Denmark in March 2025.
