Germany auctions 1.5 billion euros in 30-year bonds
Germany has successfully auctioned 1.5 billion euros in 30-year government bonds with a yield of 3.65%. The bonds, which mature in August 2053, serve as a key benchmark for long-term borrowing costs across the Eurozone.
The auction saw a bid-to-cover ratio of 1.3, indicating steady institutional interest. The sale consisted of 929 million euros in competitive bids and 478 million euros in non-competitive bids. This move reflects a stabilized debt servicing cost for Germany at levels significantly higher than the previous era of zero interest rates.
As the European Central Bank manages an exit from ultra-loose monetary policy, these yields provide a reference point for interest rate curves, affecting both sovereign and corporate borrowing costs throughout the region.
