Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to headline 31st Budapest International Book Festival

The 31st Budapest International Book Festival will feature Germany, Austria, and Switzerland as guest countries from October 1–4, 2026, at Hungexpo. The event will showcase the diversity of contemporary German-language literature, including internationally recognized authors, emerging talents, writers with Hungarian roots, and specialists in children's, youth, and scientific literature.

Featured authors include Swiss writer Christian Kracht, whose novel ‘Eurotrash’ was longlisted for the 2025 International Booker Prize, and Austrian-Bulgarian author Dimitré Dinev, winner of the 2025 Austrian Book Prize for ‘Bátrak kora’. Other notable participants include Nelio Biedermann, whose work explores Hungarian aristocratic history, and German Book Prize winner Eugen Ruge.

The festival program includes traditional readings, author-reader meetings, family programs, literature therapy sessions, and calligraphy workshops.
