Germany automotive spare part prices rise faster than inflation

Automotive spare part prices in Germany are rising significantly faster than general inflation. According to an analysis by the Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft (GDV), spare part prices increased by more than four percent between August 2025 and August 2026. Since 2016, prices have surged by over 80 percent, with certain body parts such as doors and trunk lids nearly doubling in cost.

Over a ten-year period, spare parts have increased by an average of 5.9 percent annually, roughly twice the rate of general consumer price inflation. This trend, combined with rising labor costs—where hourly workshop rates exceeded 200 euros in 2024—is driving up the total cost of vehicle repairs. The increasing complexity of modern vehicles, specifically the integration of sensors, cameras, and driver assistance systems, further complicates repairs and adds to the financial burden on both consumers and insurance providers.
