Germany awards naval combat boat contract to Finland
The German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has awarded a contract for new multi-purpose combat boats to Finland. This decision follows significant domestic debate regarding the practice of awarding naval construction contracts to foreign entities.
In separate news, the German healthcare system is facing changes following the GKV Contribution Rate Stabilization Act. As of July 30, 2026, statutory health insurance no longer covers the provision of dried cannabis flowers. This legislative change, which resulted from deletions in the Fifth Social Code, affects an estimated 65,000 people, according to the Working Group Cannabis as Medicine. Two social courts have already upheld the removal of these benefits.
