Germany broadcasting fee proposed to rise in 2027

The Commission for Determining the Financial Requirements of Broadcasting Institutions (KEF) has recommended an increase in the German public broadcasting fee. Starting January 1, 2027, the monthly contribution is proposed to rise from 18.36 euros to 18.64 euros. This 28-cent increase would apply to the 2027 and 2028 period. The final implementation depends on a multi-stage process involving the 16 federal states, requiring state treaties and parliamentary approval.

Regarding existing fee structures, certain individuals with disabilities are eligible for reduced rates. Those with a degree of disability (GdB) of at least 80 and the specific marker 'RF' in their disability certificate, or those with a GdB of at least 60 who are blind or permanently visually impaired, may qualify. Eligible individuals can pay a reduced monthly rate of 6.12 euros, which is one-third of the standard fee.
