Germany: Car affordability varies significantly by profession

A recent analysis by leasingmarkt.de reveals the significant disparity in car affordability across different professions in Germany. The study examines how many monthly net salaries are required to purchase popular vehicle models, ranging from city cars to premium segments.

For a saleswoman earning an average of 1,973 euro net per month, purchasing an Opel Corsa (22,900 euro) requires approximately 6 salaries, while a VW Golf (29,400 euro) requires nearly 15. Premium models present a much higher barrier, with a Tesla Model Y requiring 21 salaries and an Audi A6 (55,500 euro) requiring 28.

Professional income levels heavily influence these timelines. Teachers, earning an average net salary of 2,651 euro, can afford a Corsa in about 8.5 months and a Golf in 11 months. In contrast, care assistants require approximately 14 monthly salaries for a Golf, while educators require just over 11.
