Germany caravaning industry sees decline in motorhome and caravan sales

Germany's caravaning industry is experiencing a downturn in new registrations following the pandemic-driven boom. According to the Caravaning Industrie Verband (CIVD), new registrations for motorhomes and caravans fell by 3 percent to 63,329 during the first seven months of 2026.

Specifically, motorhome registrations decreased by 3.3 percent to 50,118, while caravan registrations saw a 1.9 percent decline to 13,211. Industry experts attribute this slump to a weak economy and consumer hesitation regarding high expenditures. Additionally, some manufacturers are struggling to clear excess inventory produced during the COVID-19 era.

Despite these figures, CIVD Managing Director Daniel Onggowinarso remains optimistic, describing the market as robust and suggesting this is a natural correction after the pandemic surge. The upcoming 65th Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, scheduled for late August, is expected to showcase significant innovations, particularly in the motorhome sector, with a growing focus on all-wheel drive and self-sufficiency.
