Germany and Austria host widespread heritage and religious open-house events

The ‘Tag des offenen Denkmals’ (Day of Open Monuments) is taking place across Germany and Austria, offering public access to thousands of historical sites, many of which are usually closed to the public. Under the theme ‘NetzWERKE: Denkmale & Infrastruktur’, the event highlights the connection between heritage and infrastructure.

In Germany, diverse programs are scheduled in cities such as Lemgo, Lüneburg, Bayreuth, and Leipzig. Highlights include tours of industrial sites like the former Zeche Fürst Leopold in Dorsten, modern DDR-era architecture in Leipzig, and historical religious buildings in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. In Lüneburg, visitors can explore the medieval harbor and the German Salt Museum, while in Knittlingen, a live art performance is set at the Faust Museum.

In Austria, the city of Graz will host the ‘Tag der Religionen’ (Day of Religions) on September 27, 2026. This event features 15 religious communities across 13 locations, including synagogues, mosques, and churches, providing opportunities for interfaith dialogue through tours, music, and lectures.
