German youth welfare offices report 18% drop in child placements
In 2025 German youth welfare offices placed about 56,900 children and adolescents in temporary protection, an 18 % decrease (roughly 12,600 fewer) compared with 2024. Self‑reported placements rose 9 % to roughly 10,100 cases, while urgent risk cases increased 3 % to around 30,300. In Brandenburg, child‑welfare risk‑assessment procedures rose to 10,857 in 2025, a 27.7 % increase over the previous year.
