Jürgen Klopp poised to become Germany's national team coach
After Germany's early exit from the 2026 World Cup – a 1‑4 penalty loss to Paraguay – head coach Julian Nagelsmann resigned. The German Football Association (DFB) has opened talks with former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, who is currently Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer. Klopp confirmed he is “ready” to take the job and indicated he would bring his own staff, with names such as assistant Pepijn Lijnders and scout‑coach Peter Krawietz being mentioned.
Negotiations are expected to take place in New York, where DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and Red Bull executive Oliver Mintzlaff will discuss a possible release clause and any compensation for Klopp’s Red Bull contract. German football figures including former player Lothar Matthäus and club chairman Christian Heidel have voiced strong support for Klopp, labeling him a “perfect” choice to revive the national side ahead of Euro 2028.
The appointment would mark a major shift for a team that has not won a major tournament since the 2014 World Cup and is seeking to restore its historic stature.
