Germany coastal and Lake Constance pet regulations vary

An analysis of 101 locations along the North and Baltic Seas reveals significant variations in leash requirements for dogs at designated dog beaches. According to data from urlaub-mit-tieren.com, nearly half of these locations require dogs to remain on a leash even at dog beaches during the season. Only approximately one-third of locations allow dogs to run free, often with restrictions such as fenced areas, specific time slots, or low visitor density.

Regulations also differ regarding seasonal access. Outside of the bathing season, dogs are permitted on the full beach in about two-thirds of locations, though leash rules still apply. Specific restrictions vary by municipality; for example, some locations implement seasonal bans starting in March, while others only restrict access during summer months. Some areas, such as certain spots on Rügen, also charge daily fees for dogs.

Similarly, pet-friendly camping options around Lake Constance show diverse rules regarding water access, leash requirements, and additional fees. While some campsites offer dedicated dog beaches or fenced areas, others prohibit dogs from entering the lake or specific beach zones.
