Germany commemorates 82nd anniversary of failed July 20 plot to kill Hitler

Germany marked the 82nd anniversary of the July 20, 1944 attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler. A ceremony was held at the Memorial of the German Resistance in Berlin, attended by Education Minister Karin Prien, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, and Chief of Staff Carsten Breuer. Officials placed wreaths to honor the conspirators, including Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, General Ludwig Beck, General Friedrich Olbricht, Colonel Albrecht Ritter Mertz von Quirnheim and Lieutenant Werner von Haeften. The plot, which used a bomb at an HQ near present‑day Kętrzyn (Poland), also aimed to seize command of the Nazi armed forces. All participants were executed after the failed attempt, and the ceremony highlighted their resistance against the totalitarian regime.
