Germany considers LED glass floor for 2027 Handball World Championship final
Organizers of the 2027 World Men's Handball Championship in Germany are considering using a specialized LED-integrated glass floor for the final match in Cologne. The technology, developed by ASB GlassFloor, transforms the playing surface into a massive digital screen capable of displaying animations, team logos, real-time statistics, and advertisements.
Mark Schober, CEO of the German Handball Association (DHB), confirmed the possibility of using this technology during the final weekend. While the innovation aims to create a spectacular visual experience for spectators, Schober noted that a final decision is pending due to potential organizational and financial considerations. However, he indicated that ticket sales for the championship have already been strong enough to generate a profit.
The glass surface has already been tested in professional handball during the German Cup final in Cologne earlier this year. The technology has received approval from the International Handball Federation (IHF), ensuring the surface provides the necessary grip and safety for professional athletes.
