Germany defender Nico Schlotterbeck sidelined by ankle injury in World Cup match

German centre‑back Nico Schlotterbeck left the field at half‑time of the World Cup group game against the Ivory Coast after injuring his left ankle. Medical staff treated him on the sidelines and he was replaced by Antonio Rüdiger. The injury, suspected to be an inner‑ligament tear, will be examined with an MRI. Coach Julian Nagelsmann said the outlook “does not look good” and warned the team may be without Schlotterbeck for the remainder of the tournament. Germany trailed 0‑1 at the break but later turned the match around to win 2‑1.

The incident drew concern from Borussia Dortmund fans, as Schlotterbeck is a key defender for both club and country.
