Germany digital healthcare adoption rises in TI-Atlas 2026

Digitalization is increasingly becoming a standard component of the German healthcare system. According to the TI-Atlas 2026 report released by Gematik, digital applications such as the electronic patient record (ePA), e-prescriptions, and digital medication processes are now firmly established in daily medical routines.

The report, which surveyed approximately 5,000 facilities and 1,400 insured individuals, indicates that nearly 70 percent of doctor's offices use the ePA intensively. Additionally, about 50 percent of hospitals are utilizing the electronic patient record, with three-quarters of those implementing it hospital-wide. Among insured individuals who are aware of the ePA, roughly 90 percent consider it useful.

Digital solutions like video consultations, telemonitoring, and electronic sick notes are being used to address challenges such as rising medical demand and specialist shortages, particularly in rural areas. While these tools aim to improve organization and data exchange between providers, experts emphasize that digital offerings are intended to complement rather than replace personal medical contact.
