Germany: Doctor accused of fake COVID-19 vaccinations flees to Paraguay
A criminal investigation into a German doctor accused of performing hundreds of fake COVID-19 vaccinations remains unresolved five years after the scandal began. The 76-year-old physician, who practiced in Wemding, is accused of administering empty syringes to patients while disposing of actual vaccine doses.
Investigators estimate that approximately 314 first and second vaccinations were manipulated. The doctor is also accused of issuing at least 49 fraudulent vaccination certificates to vaccine-critical individuals. He faces charges of fraud and bodily harm.
The legal proceedings have stalled because the defendant fled to South America. Although authorities located him in Paraguay, the extradition process has been ongoing for over a year without a resolution. The Nuremberg Public Prosecutor's Office stated that it is currently uncertain if a main trial will ever take place at the Augsburg District Court.
