Germany economic growth forecast rises to 1.3 percent

The German government has increased its economic growth forecast for the current year to 1.3 percent, up from a previous estimate of 0.5 percent. While this indicates an upward trend, analysts warn that much of this recovery is driven by state interventions, including increased defense spending and government investments. Without these state-led measures, growth would likely be significantly lower, at approximately 0.65 percent.

FDP politician Wolfgang Kubicki has criticized the current economic policy, describing the projected growth as being “bought with the largest debt program Germany has ever seen.” He argued that the government lacks necessary structural reforms and called for a reduction in energy costs, the utilization of domestic resources, and the removal of bureaucratic hurdles. Kubicki also advocated for the use of fracking and modular nuclear power to bolster the economy.

Critics suggest that the improved growth figures may provide a political excuse for the ruling coalition to delay essential reforms needed to address long-term competitiveness and the challenges of an aging population.
