Germany electric vehicle market surpasses two million registrations

The electric vehicle market in Germany has seen significant growth in 2026, with the number of registered battery-electric passenger cars exceeding two million, marking a year-on-year increase of more than 23 percent. This shift is driven by expanding charging infrastructure, a wider variety of vehicle models, and improved economic conditions.

New government subsidies introduced in 2026 provide financial incentives for private individuals registering new vehicles. These premiums can reach up to 6,000 euros for battery-electric vehicles and 4,500 euros for plug-in hybrids, subject to household income limits and minimum holding periods of 36 months. These incentives, combined with competitive leasing options, are making electric mobility more accessible to a broader range of consumers.
