German automakers and energy policy face shifts

German automotive retailers are increasingly integrating Chinese electric vehicle brands into their portfolios. Autohaus Borgmann in Krefeld has added Geely and GWM to its program, while Autohaus Jost in the Sauerland region has converted a location to become the first dealership for BYD in the area. These shifts reflect a decline in traditional brand loyalty and a strategic move toward hybrid and electric technologies.

Separately, German Economic Minister Katherina Reiche faces criticism regarding a proposed revision of the Renewable Energy Sources Act. Critics argue that the plan to ease pressure on the power grid by limiting feed-in from private households fails to address the underlying issue: a lack of digitalization and intelligence within the power grid. The current infrastructure struggles to balance production and demand, a problem that requires smarter, more flexible networks rather than simple capacity restrictions.
