Germany expands Education for Sustainable Development initiatives

Educational initiatives focused on Education for Sustainable Development (BNE) are being implemented through various workshops and academic research in Germany.

The Lokale Agenda Trier is organizing BNE-Tage 2026, offering free workshops for kindergartens and school classes. These sessions cover topics such as children's rights, using the story of Malala Yousafzai to teach empathy and justice, as well as sustainable nutrition and fair clothing.

In parallel, academic research is exploring sensory training concepts for children aged 8–10. A study evaluated a sensory education concept designed to integrate sustainability into food and consumer education. The research indicates that such practical, sensory-based approaches are highly accepted and feasible within school settings, addressing the current lack of sustainability-focused content in existing sensory training programs.
