Germany expands electric vehicle charging infrastructure

Germany continues to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure through both municipal and federal initiatives. In Braunschweig, the city has reached a milestone by commissioning its 400th public charging point. This achievement fulfills the requirements of a concession agreement with BS Energy ahead of the year-end deadline, providing widespread access to charging for local citizens.

On a national level, a new high-speed charging park has opened at the Duwelsiepen parking area on the A45 motorway near Meinerzhagen. Operated by a private company using green electricity, the facility features high-performance connections of up to 400 kilowatts, capable of providing 300 to 500 kilometers of range in approximately ten minutes. This site is part of the ‘Deutschlandnetz’ project, a federal initiative by the Ministry of Transport to invest 2.3 billion euros to create 9,000 additional fast-charging points across the country, ensuring drivers encounter a charging station at least every ten minutes of driving by the end of the year.
