Germany expands electric vehicle charging infrastructure

Germany is seeing continued expansion in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure through both municipal investments and large-scale corporate rollouts.

In Baunach, the city has installed four new publicly accessible charging stations at the Altstadt parking lot. The project, which received 20,000 euros in subsidies from the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Development and Energy, focuses on accessibility by ensuring all charging spots are barrier-free for individuals with mobility impairments. The location serves commuters, athletes, and visitors near a new multipurpose hall.

On a larger scale, EnBW has begun the nationwide rollout of high-power chargers, starting with a reference site in Karlsruhe. The new XCharge C7 stations offer a peak power of up to 480 kW, one of the highest capacities in the European market. Depending on the vehicle, these chargers can add up to 640 kilometers of range in approximately 20 minutes. EnBW plans to connect a double-digit number of fast-charging parks equipped with this technology across Germany by the end of 2026.
