Germany expands heat pump support through regional initiatives

Regional initiatives in Germany are expanding to support the transition to heat pump technology. In the Freising district, the cities of Freising and Moosburg, along with several municipalities in the Nordallianz, have launched a joint bulk purchasing campaign. This initiative aims to help property owners switch to climate-friendly heating systems by offering better conditions through collective action. The project is supported by the independent partner ‘ShiftUp’ and focuses on providing neutral advice and involving regional specialist companies.

In Hamburg, the SPD and Green parties have proposed an additional six million euros for the city's heating subsidy program. This move follows a significant increase in heat pump installations, which rose from an average of 60 per month in 2024 to more than double that amount in 2025. The additional funding is intended to ensure that climate-friendly heating remains affordable. Starting in 2027, the program is planned to be adjusted to better support low-income residents and align with changing federal framework conditions.
