Germany expands MiCA lead as EU crypto service provider count reaches 331

The total number of authorized Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs) under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation has risen to 331, according to the latest update from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).

Germany has significantly expanded its presence in the regulatory framework with the addition of six regional cooperative banks: Raiffeisenbank Aidlingen, Ihre Volksbank, VR-Bank Mittelfranken Mitte, Volksbank Euskirchen, VR Bank Ried-Überwald, and Volksbank Backnang. This brings Germany’s total to 79 authorized CASPs, maintaining its lead in the EU ahead of France, which has 35, and the Netherlands, which has 29.

The recent growth in Germany reflects a trend of traditional financial institutions securing authorization to provide crypto services under the new single regulatory framework. While the number of CASPs has increased, other categories in the ESMA register, such as asset-referenced tokens (ART) and electronic money tokens (EMT), remained largely unchanged.
