Germany expands renewable energy via wind and solar tenders
Germany is advancing its renewable energy transition through new infrastructure developments and successful energy tenders. To meet its goal of greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045, the nation is deploying record-breaking tall wind turbines, including 7-MW models with 650-foot hub heights, to improve efficiency in fluctuating weather conditions. Onshore wind capacity must reach 115 gigawatts by 2030 to support rising electricity demand.
In a separate development, the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) concluded a tender for innovative solar-plus-storage projects. The tender attracted 53 bids totaling 678 MW, resulting in 32 projects with a total capacity of 480 MW being awarded contracts. The average price for these projects was €0.0514/kWh. Bavaria secured the largest share of the awarded capacity at 177 MW, followed by Brandenburg with 94 MW and North Rhine-Westphalia with 48 MW.
