Germany expands Youth Career Agencies to combat unemployment

Authorities in Germany are focusing on improving labor market integration through expanded support services. In Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, Ulrike Mohrs, head of the regional Federal Employment Agency, and Labor Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler are advocating for the expansion of Youth Career Agencies (Jugendberufsagenturen).

These agencies aim to combat youth unemployment by bringing the employment agency, job centers, and child and youth welfare services together under one roof. The goal is to provide streamlined support for young adults facing social challenges such as debt, homelessness, or family issues, ensuring they receive step-by-step guidance through the vocational selection process.

Additionally, general guidance for job seekers emphasizes the importance of timely registration. To avoid sanctions and access counseling, individuals should register as job seekers at least three months before their current employment ends, or within three days if a job is lost unexpectedly. Proper documentation is also noted as essential for initial consultations with the employment agency.
