Germany extends QuaMath mathematics education program until 2033

German states have approved the second funding phase of the QuaMath initiative, a program designed to improve the quality of mathematics instruction and teacher training. Running until the end of 2033, the ten-year project will receive approximately 26 million euros in funding.

The initiative aims to address challenges in student mathematical competencies highlighted by recent assessments such as PISA and the IQB Education Trend. The program will expand its reach to schools across all 16 German states.

Implementation is led by the German Center for Mathematics Teacher Education (DZLM) under the direction of the IPN - Leibniz Institute for Science Education, in collaboration with 14 DZLM universities and the individual states. The University of Paderborn is also a participating institution. The program focuses on developing training modules and qualifying multipliers to ensure improvements in teaching quality are implemented broadly in classrooms.
