Germany fuel prices dip slightly as oil prices fall
After two nights without U.S. attacks on Iran, Brent crude fell 5.58% to $91.38 per barrel and WTI dropped 5.46% to $84.43 per barrel on 27 July 2026. The decline translated into only a minimal reduction in German pump prices: Super E10 was €2.157 / L and diesel €2.21 / L, about one cent lower than the previous day.
The ADAC noted that fuel prices have remained high for weeks but hopes the falling oil price will soon be felt more at the pump. In parallel, the German Bundesrat’s economic committee approved an initiative to introduce a state‑controlled fuel‑price ceiling, citing ongoing instability in the Middle East and uncertainties on the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal points to Luxembourg’s price‑cap system as a model.
Despite the oil‑price slide, the impact on motorists is modest; prices are still roughly €0.38 higher for gasoline and €0.46 higher for diesel compared with levels before the recent Iran‑related tensions.
