Germany faces criticism over military rearmament and social spending

The German Communist Party (DKP) has issued calls to oppose military rearmament and the potential reintroduction of conscription. Critics argue that increased defense spending is directly linked to social welfare cuts, noting that funds allocated to the military are being diverted from essential sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social services.

Reports indicate that German military expenditures have doubled over the last five years, with goals to reach NATO-related targets by 2035. This buildup includes the deployment of large military formations, such as Panzerbrigade 45 in Lithuania, and an increase in the military construction budget in North Rhine-Westphalia from 180 million to 560 million euros. Opponents express concern that these actions increase the risk of direct conflict with Russia and prioritize the interests of defense corporations over public welfare.
