Germany faces highest district heating costs in Europe

Heating costs in Germany are among the highest in Europe, according to an analysis by energy service provider Techem. Based on consumption data from 1.1 million apartments across 94,000 buildings, the report indicates that while costs did not rise further last year, they remain 82 percent higher than in 2021.

District heating in Germany averages approximately 1,057 euros per apartment, surpassing Switzerland (982 euros) and Denmark (763.36 euros). Within Germany, prices vary significantly by city; for example, district heating in Dortmund costs 14.83 euros per square meter, while in Bochum it is 6.75 euros.

In a separate context regarding heating oil, experts advise consumers facing high market prices to purchase smaller quantities, such as 1,000 to 1,500 liters, rather than filling entire tanks. This strategy aims to mitigate the risk of price spikes while allowing for future purchases if prices decrease.
