Germany faces ongoing hybrid warfare threats
Germany is facing a constant state of hybrid warfare involving cyberattacks, sabotage, espionage, and influence operations, according to Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt. He described these activities as a “steady reality” aimed at destabilizing the country.
A recent incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport has heightened security concerns. A drone carrying Semtex-type explosives was discovered near an Antonov Airlines aircraft. The airport serves as a critical DHL hub and is used by NATO for military transport to Ukraine. While German authorities have not officially attributed the incident to a state actor, U.S. intelligence sources have suggested possible Russian involvement.
This follows another incident where a drone reportedly collided with a cargo aircraft, causing minor damage. These events are part of a broader pattern of disruption, including a July cyberattack on the Leipzig-based information services provider Lecos, which compromised technical catalogs and professional communication data of several municipal organizations.
