Simultaneously, political tensions are rising around cultural symbols. The AfD has criticized the Bauhaus movement, labeling it a ‘mistake of modernity’ and ‘inhumane architecture’ that displaces local identity. This rhetoric mirrors historical patterns used by National Socialists. Furthermore, right-wing groups and AfD politicians, including Björn Höcke, have utilized the Hermann Monument as a site for propaganda, framing historical figures like Arminius to promote themes of defending the homeland against perceived foreign influence.
