Germany faces rise in antisemitic attacks and threats

Germany is facing a rise in antisemitic incidents, including a physical attack in Berlin and a death threat in Munich.

In Berlin-Mitte, two unknown men targeted a 43-year-old woman wearing a Star of David. One assailant reportedly attacked her with a broken glass bottle, causing hand injuries. Political leaders from the Green and Left parties condemned the violence, stating that antisemitism must have no place in the city.

In Munich, Charlotte Knobloch, the 93-year-old president of the Israelite Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, received death threats following the AfD's electoral victory in Saxony-Anhalt. A witness discovered written threats and a Star of David in the Englischer Garten. Bavarian antisemitism commissioner Ludwig Spaenle stated that “every limit has been crossed” by this threat. The Munich General Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into incitement to hatred, threats, and property damage.
