Bavaria consumer spending led by housing costs

Data from the Bavarian State Office for Statistics reveals that housing is the primary expense for households in Bavaria, accounting for an average of 35.8 percent of consumer spending in 2024. This figure includes maintenance and energy costs.

Transportation follows as the second largest expenditure at 14.2 percent, while food purchases represent 13.3 percent. Spending on leisure, culture, and sports accounts for 9.5 percent, with significant variations observed based on income levels.

In other economic developments within Germany, pellet prices have seen a sharp increase, rising approximately 40 percent over the past year. Experts attribute this to high energy prices and a reduced supply of wood byproducts due to a slowdown in the construction industry.
