Germany faces rising Russian sabotage and drone threats

Security expert Gustav Gressel warns of increasing Russian operations within Germany, including sabotage, espionage, and attempted attacks. These activities often involve methods that are difficult to attribute to a specific actor, creating significant security challenges.

Recent incidents include frequent drone sightings at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), with 28 such occurrences reported in the first half of the year alone. These sightings have caused repeated disruptions to air traffic. Gressel suggests that some drone flights may serve as preparations for potential conflict. He notes that while electronic warfare systems and defensive drones exist, Germany’s current application of these technologies remains insufficient to address the growing vulnerability.
