Germany faces rising tensions over AfD and attacks on subcultural spaces
Political tensions and targeted harassment are rising in Germany, specifically concerning the influence of the AfD and attacks on subcultural spaces. In the Erzgebirge region, the Atomkinder residential project has resorted to video surveillance following an increase in attacks by right-wing extremists, including vandalism and property damage. This follows a pattern of similar threats against various autonomous youth centers and subcultural venues across cities like Leipzig, Cottbus, and Hamburg.
In a televised discussion, Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, expressed deep concern regarding the rise of the AfD. A Holocaust survivor, Knobloch stated, “The AfD belongs away. Otherwise, I do not know how our future will develop,” noting that many people feel fear. She emphasized the need to regain control over the political landscape to ensure a stable future for the country.
