Germany faces surge in attacks on energy infrastructure

Germany is facing a surge in attacks targeting its energy infrastructure and critical sites. Authorities recently discovered 12 improvised explosive devices near high-voltage lines close to the Baerwalde and Graustein electrical stations. These incidents follow a series of attacks on power distributors aimed at disrupting electricity supply from coal-fired plants.

In addition to the energy sector, other recent incidents in Germany include an attempted arson attack at the Rohde & Schwarz headquarters in Munich and a grenade explosion at the Augsburg main station. Investigators are examining whether these events are linked to a broader pattern of hybrid warfare or domestic climate extremism. A 48-year-old man, identified as Daniel V., has claimed responsibility for certain attacks via letters.

Similar patterns of sabotage have been reported across Europe, including a drone factory fire in Poland and an attack on a drone manufacturer in Slovakia. Intelligence services have noted that many of these incidents, particularly those targeting companies involved in supporting Ukraine, may be connected to Russian hybrid warfare efforts intended to create social polarization and instability.
