Germany: Fatal knife attack in Freiburg and PISA study concerns
In Freiburg, a 74-year-old man has died following a knife attack near a community center in the Rieselfeld district. Police have arrested a suspect, though they stated that religious motives have been ruled out.
Regarding education, the latest PISA study results show historically low performance levels for German students. In response to these findings, Rhineland-Palatinate Education Minister Ute Eiling-Hütig has called for a ban on mobile phones in schools to protect students from the excessive influence of digital media.
Other regional reports from Rhineland-Palatinate include a large fire at a waste management facility in Boden, where approximately 60 to 70 tons of trash burned, causing local power disruptions. Additionally, employees at the Frankenthal city clinic are demonstrating against state plans to convert the facility into a regional clinic, citing concerns over job security and reduced medical services.
