Germany fuel prices fall below €2 per litre as tax cut and lower oil costs take effect

ADAC’s weekly fuel price survey shows the average price of Super E10 fell by 5.2 cents to €1.973 per litre and diesel by 11.2 cents to €1.983 per litre, placing both below the €2 mark nationwide. The decline is attributed mainly to the German energy‑tax reduction introduced on 1 May, which provides a “tank rebate” of roughly 17 cents per litre, and to a roughly $5‑per‑barrel drop in Brent crude prices.

Regional differences remain significant: the Saarland records the lowest prices, while Schleswig‑Holstein and Hamburg have the highest. ADAC advises motorists to refuel around midday, when prices tend to be lowest, and to compare stations via its ADAC Drive app, which monitors over 14,000 German pumps.
