Germany funds emergency nutrition response in South Sudan

The German Embassy in Juba has provided funding for an emergency nutrition response to support vulnerable communities in Guit County, Unity State, South Sudan. The initiative will be implemented by the Coalition for Humanity, targeting underserved areas including Kuach, Kuerguiny, Wathnyotna, and Chotyiel.

German Ambassador to South Sudan Sebastian Brökelmann stated that the funding aims to assist those affected by acute malnutrition, with a specific focus on young children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers. The intervention also targets displaced persons, returnees, and households whose access to food and healthcare has been disrupted by conflict and recurrent flooding.

The response is designed to reach remote and hard-to-reach communities that are often isolated by insecurity or flooding. Guit County is currently facing a prolonged nutrition emergency driven by acute food insecurity, disease risks, and limited access to permanent nutrition facilities.
