Germany funds tens of thousands of interceptor drones for Ukraine

Germany has announced a major military support package for Ukraine, including funding for tens of thousands of interceptor drones from Quantum Systems. During a visit to Kyiv on October 4, 2026, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Economic Minister Katharina Reiche met with company representatives to discuss the initiative.

Unlike traditional exports, these interceptor drones will be manufactured directly in Ukraine through Quantum WIY Industries, a joint venture utilizing Ukrainian development and frontline experience. The drones are designed to protect cities, civilian facilities, and critical infrastructure from Russian attack drones and will be integrated into the MOSAIC-UXS software platform.

The broader German aid package is estimated to be worth approximately one billion euros, with President Volodymyr Zelensky noting that total agreements between the two nations involving security and weapon production exceed 8.5 billion euros. The funding also covers standoff weapons, combat drones, satellite technology, and approximately 350 million euros for Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
