Munich seeks new Oktoberfest tent operator after Alexander Egger withdraws

Alexander Egger, holder of the small “Münchner Stubn” tent on the Oktoberfest, let the deadline for signing his lease lapse in early July 2026, leaving the city without an operator for that spot. Munich must now find a replacement quickly as the festival opens on 19 September.

The next applicant on the city’s waiting list is Klaus Bartl, who runs the Thalkirchen camping site and the alpine inn in Haar. He says his “Flösserstadl” concept is ready and that he could have the tent built within ten weeks. “Falls wir auf die Wiesn dürfen, haben wir ein Konzept, und wir sind vorbereitet,” Bartl told local media.

City officials, including Oberbürgermeister Dominik Krause, said the vacant area will be reassigned “zeitnah,” likely within a week. The legal dispute over the Oktoberfest’s tendering process, which Egger has pursued for years—including challenges to larger tents—will be heard on 11 September before the Bavarian Supreme Court.

Egger’s withdrawal also caused cancellations for guests and staff who had already made reservations, creating frustration among those affected.
