Germany Highlights Historic Preservation with Ziegenberg Exhibition and Peine Archaeological Discovery

A city discussion in the Harz region examined the value of historic places, focusing on the Gut Ziegenberg complex and the exhibition "Die Heilstätte Harzgerode 1931–1998" which traces the former tuberculosis sanatorium’s history through the Nazi era, the DDR, and its closure in 1998.

Separately, archaeologists working on water‑pipe repairs in Peine uncovered a previously unknown section of the 16th‑century Heerstraße, dating it to 1549, along with well‑preserved iron artifacts, horseshoes and axle pins, and a five‑metre‑wide sand‑stone bridge foundation. The find, documented by archaeologist Thomas Budde, offers new insight into the region’s early modern transport routes.
