Germany Highlights Sweating Benefits and Summer Mattress Care
Sweating is essential for temperature regulation, preventing body temperature from exceeding the normal 37 °C. The brain activates sweat glands, releasing fluid that evaporates and cools the skin. An average adult loses about half a litre of sweat each day, rising to up to two litres per hour on very hot summer days. Adequate fluid intake, including electrolytes such as sodium, is needed to avoid dehydration and hyponatraemia.
Excess moisture on the body, especially in skin folds, can foster bacterial and fungal infections, so regular washing of these areas is advised. In hot weather, loose, breathable clothing and proper ventilation help the evaporative cooling process.
For mattresses, nighttime sweating can make them damp, encouraging mould growth and dust‑mite proliferation. Monthly turning and regular airing of the mattress, especially for box‑spring bases, helps the moisture evaporate and prolongs the mattress’s lifespan.
