Germany holds memorial tours for Sinti and Roma Holocaust victims

Guided remembrance tours were held at the former Ravensbrück women’s camp and the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Brandenburg. The Brandenburgische Gedenkstätten organised the events, linking the tours to the exhibition “Wir intervenieren!” and highlighting the work of Sinti‑Roma artist and author Ceija Stojka.

In Ravensburg, Madeleine Kehrer visited a memorial stone listing 29 local Sinti deported to Auschwitz, including her grandmother Anna Schneck, who was murdered with her children. Only three of her thirty‑member family survived. Kehrer and 21‑year‑old activist Armani Spindler, members of the Sinti and Roma association of Baden‑Württemberg, use such visits to educate schools and police about Antiziganism and keep the memory alive for younger generations.
