Germany holds nationwide Schichtwechsel workplace exchange day

The nationwide “Schichtwechsel” (Shift Change) action day continues to facilitate workplace exchanges between people with disabilities and employees in the general labor market. The initiative, coordinated by the Federal Association of Workshops for People with Disabilities (BAG WfbM) since 2019, aims to promote equal participation and provide new perspectives for both employers and employees.

In Braunschweig, visitors from Lebenshilfe Braunschweig participated in activities at the Braunschweig-Broitzem Customs Office. Participants engaged with various customs operations, including dog demonstrations, X-ray inspections of luggage, parcel customs clearance, and alcohol testing. They also explored equipment used by the financial enforcement unit to combat undeclared work.

In Speyer, Social Councilor David Guthier participated in the program by exchanging duties with an employee from the Maudacher Workshop. This exchange is designed to highlight the contributions of people with disabilities in workshops and to allow them to demonstrate their skills to potential employers. Currently, more than 300,000 adults with disabilities are employed in member workshops of the BAG WfbM.
