Germany hosts nationwide Intercultural Week in 2026

The Intercultural Week (Interkulturelle Woche) will take place across Germany from September 27 to October 4, 2026. The nationwide initiative, which has been held since 1975, aims to promote an open society, foster mutual understanding, and reduce prejudice through various cultural and social activities.

In Velbert, the event will feature lectures, workshops, readings, and exhibitions. Organized with the support of the Mettmann District Integration Center, the program includes multilingual readings for children, discussions on demographic change, and community events. Many of these sessions are free of charge.

In Trier, the week follows the motto ‘dafür!’, emphasizing openness and respect. Activities include the ‘ZusammenSpiel’ intercultural improv orchestra, which invites people of all musical backgrounds and origins to participate. The week also incorporates the Day of the Refugee on October 2.
