German towns launch summer open‑air cinema and theatre series

Across German cities a series of free or ticketed open‑air cultural events kicks off in late July. The Veste Oberhaus in Passau will host a summer night cinema from 29 July to 9 August, showing movies such as Mamma Mia 1, Barbie and Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Fränkischer Theatersommer opens on 24 July with two productions at historic venues in Oberfranken. Munich’s Werksviertel runs Disney+’s free "Hulu on Disney+ Summer Festival" from 21 July to 2 August, offering interactive game stations based on popular Hulu series. Halle’s Oberburg Giebichenstein holds its 12th Summer Film Nights on three weekends between 6 and 22 August, featuring double‑feature screenings and audience voting. Ohligs transforms its market square into a free open‑air cinema from 31 July to 2 August. Oberhausen presents its Schlossnächte from 30 July to 6 August, combining theatre, live‑readings and cabaret in the castle courtyard.

In neighbouring Austria, the Möbelmuseum in Vienna runs a free open‑air classic film series from 24 July to 5 September, showcasing 1950s‑60s Austrian movies. In France, Ostwald’s Point d’Eau hosts a one‑day free Jurassic Park open‑air screening on 23 August, complemented by related activities. All events aim to provide summer entertainment, cultural enrichment and community gathering under the night sky.
